Body Positive starts from within

Today I write from the heart.

Many years, in fact most of my life, I have denied having an eating disorder or body dysmorphia, but I know I do.

At the age of 51 I still battle daily with how my body looks. I see the bones, the protruding rib cage, and now the sagging skin. It makes me feel physically sick, but I still don’t allow the weight to go on.

I am not alone, statistics and media tell us this daily, yet how we manage this life long battle is whats important.

My life has been turbulent to say the least, memories of passion, excitement, luxuries, as well as tears, fights and inner dread. Yet these experiences have made me the person I am today. Despite the eating disorder and body dysmorphia I am confident in my career, confident as a person and happy.

So what is wrong? Nothing, but I wish to share to help others like me reagin some of their inner self-love and feel confident in their skin.

I may dislike what I see, but I love how I feel.

You see there is a trick to this, not so much a trick but a powerful skill of positive belief. I deeply and passionately accept what I am, I may not like it (I don’t) but I accept it and make the best of it.

The way we mentally manage our inner emotions
shows on our exterior.

In the morning, evening or whenever I see a glimpse of my body, I create a positive mindset, I remind myself it could be worse. I visualise images of others who are not so fortunate as me; can’t walk independently, no longer have a complete body and then I selfishly regain inner confidence and make the best of what I am fortunate to have.

Many of you know I am a holistic nutritionist. I am physically healthy as I eat the correct foods to allow my body achieve optimum health, without the weight gain……..
Over the past 18 months I have been working with clients who have identified that their weight issues were deep rooted and required other elements of their lives to be addressed. Once I had supported them manage these issues and achieve their personal goals, they wanted more, they wanted to make their new found bodies feel and look amazing. I steer them towards body products that are natural and add no further toxins to their now new balanced bodies, and from next week I will be steering them to a sensual lingerie site.

Why sensual, sexy and daring lingerie,
because my female clients have asked me to.

When we feel good on the inside and outside we naturally walk and talk differently. Our entire personality changes and we grow a new confidence. The new lease of positivity can open doors of opportunity and propel you towards your individual success and professional goals.

Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to become
empowered from inside out

Benefits of Stretching

Benefits of Stretching

You need to stretch! Its is a form of exercise thats promotes flexibility. The effects of stretching are not obvious to the individual or those observing. Deep inside your body, and your organs are experiencing a workout that has a multitude of benefits.

Stretching is both a physical and mental activity. When we stretch we are conscious of the movements being performed, becoming steady in our stance and allowing our minds to focus. Your brain is a muscle and the calmness gained through gentle stretching soothes it and promotes effective blood circulation; vital to manage brain fog, irritability and general headaches and strain.

The most obvious benefit from stretching is flexibility.

All athletes and sports people spend many hours stretching before and after intense training sessions. This is because it increase the blood flow, reduces muscle injuries and the flexibility has life-long benefits.

If you struggle to touch your toes, who will be putting on your socks in later life? Just a thought.

Many animals can be been stretching, we need to stretch too. The best stretches are those that elongate the body, stretch the spine, opening up our digestive tract and rib cage.

Stretching lowers blood sugar levels.

Stretch to allow your digestive system the chance to realign. The pancreas is your organ responsible for insulin that controls your blood sugar levels. Movement allows good blood flow and can promote the insulin production that regulates glucose move from the blood to the tissues. Your capillaries naturally open up when muscle movement occurs.

Stretching reduces high blood pressure

As we stretch the heart pumps to accommodate the mechanisms of the muscle movement. Stretching in a calm focused method lowers your hormone cortisol, which is known to tense muscles. When cortisol levels are low, the heart beats more effectively and may reduce blood pressure. Stretching has been known to soften stiffened arteries allowing more effective blood supply to all the other organs within your body.

Stretching keeps muscles healthy

If you don’t use it, you will lose it…… is very true in the case of your muscles. As we adopt more sedentary lifestyles with extended periods of sitting down our muscles become weak. Similarly aches and pains are often as a result of limited movement. We restrict the blood flow and vital nutrients getting to our cells. Removing waste and toxins from your cells requires movement, simple stretching can reduce cramping and aches.

Stretching can increase joint movement

Tendons attach your bones to muscles and are found at joints. If you allow these tendons or similar connective tissues to become stiff, you will experience inflammation and joint pain. Furthermore, breakdown of fibres created by a protein known as collagen is usually seen especially when the hips and knees require operations to loosen the joints.

Ageing

As we age our body naturally weakens, therefore when flexibility is maintained through regular stretching the body is better equipped to prevent stiff aching joints and risk of fractures.

Some stretches

Your gut loves you when you stretch. It feels ‘free’, can realign and work far more efficiently for you. You will benefit from a daily stretch and experience less abdominal discomfort and bloating.

Older Peoples Natural Remedies

Today as I near the ‘young old’ category, I have become far more conscious of the health benefits of the food I consume in relation to specific ‘older persons’ complaints such as aching joints, failing eye sight, dry skin plus so much more.

Fatigue has been my biggest challenge, quickly followed by aching joints.

I eat a healthy balanced diet, and rarely succumb to processed food, though I can’t control the natural changes occurring to my body systems, hormone levels and metabolism; BUT what I can do is consume foods that support the systems function more effectively and therefore reduce the fatigue, dry skin and aching joints.

Staying active is very important. No need to join a gym, just a brisk walk, some stretches and general housework or gardening is enough, though for the more active or able bodies, pilates, yoga and gentle weight lifting is ideal.

To keep your BONES in good health the hormones oestrogen is required. Most women as they enter into later life stages experience a natural decline in oestrogen production; increasing the risk of brittle bones. SAGE is a very powerful herb that contains substances similar to oestrogen, that support the retention of calcium in your system. I love my sage brew in the morning and mid afternoon. Simply place a good handful of fresh sage leaves or 25g of dried sage into a teapot. Pour on hot freshly boiled water and leave to infuse for 10 mins. Strain through a tea strainer and enjoy. There should be enough for two or three cups, I strain the remainder into a jug and store in the fridge and drink cold.

PORRIDGE is excellent for providing slow release energy and also contain properties that lift the ‘mood’. Make your porridge with organic oats and fresh filtered water. Eat each morning, also ideal as a pre bedtime snack to prevent night cramps.

VITAMIN B is not only good for the brain but also helps prevent dry mouth and mouth sores.

Dry skin can be a sign of VITAMIN A deficiency. COD LIVER OIL is naturally rich in vitamins A & D and can be applied topically too. VITAMIN E is also known to reduce dry skin, applying it as a cream works far more efficiently.

MAGNESIUM is the ‘new kid’ on the block, ideal for aching muscles, tied limbs, stiffness. Spinach is naturally rich in magnesium but unless you eat a whole bag of fresh leaves daily, you may be at risk of not achieving the recommended daily intake of magnesium. I take a liquid supplement, and I do eat fresh spinach every day!!

Oat Milk: reduced my bloating

Oat milk, now forgive me if I ramble on an veer off on tangents, but I am so amazed at the change in my abdomen shape in the past three days that I have to share this with you.

I have tried oat milk on an doff over the past 6 weeks, as I have been creating smoothies and other recipes for vegans and lactose intolerant clients, but I made a conscious decision to stop taking cow milk and just use oat. I have omitted eggs, cheese but not live yogurt, I can’t go without that!!
So on Saturday the cow milk finished and I opened my oat milk carton. I knew I liked the taste as I had previously tried it. So from 11am Saturday to tonight Wednesday 11pm I can say I have no bloating, no cramping, no excess gas, and I have felt more energised.
Why? I am not too sure, so here are some facts taken from www.provitamil.com

About Oat Drink

Provitamil Oat Drink is a high quality, non-dairy alternative to milk. Packed with the goodness of oats, plus added calcium and vitamins, and it is made right here in the UK.

As well as providing nutrition from the oats themselves, Provitamil is also the perfect solution for lactose intolerance. Ideal for drinking straight out of the fridge, or adding to cereals, Provitamil is just as enjoyable as a comforting hot drink.

Great for cooks

It’s even perfect for cooking because oats naturally absorb flavour. That means the cheesiest of cheese sauces, the fruitiest fruit smoothies and totally mushroomy mushroom soups.

Backed by science

There’s even a bit of science behind it. Until January 2014, the oat drink market was dominated by one supplier. Then along came Provitamil Oat Drink. When Sheffield Hallam University asked a panel of milk alternative consumers which they preferred for appearance, smell, flavour and texture, Provitamil either matched or beat its rival every time. When asked which they preferred overall, Provitamil came out on top, thanks to its creamy taste and texture.

Why not put it to the test yourself and make Provitamil Oat Drink a core part of your healthier lifestyle.

Try some for yourself

Why not try Provitamil Oat Drink for yourself, to see how well it fits with your lifestyle?

A healthier lifestyle

At Provitamil, we want to give you more than a great product, we want to help you to use it in a heathy lifestyle.

Livestrong also recognises the health benefits and states “oat milk contains 10 minerals and 15 vitamins. Just a cup of oat milk contains 36 percent of the recommended daily allowance, or RDA, of calcium. Oat milk also contains 10 percent of the RDA for vitamin A, which is twice as much as cow’s milk. If you suffer from anemia and are looking for vegan options for iron intake, one serving of oat milk contains 10 percent of the RDA.”

“A surprising fact about oat milk is that it contains more calcium in one serving than regular cow’s milk. Oat milk contains 36 percent of the RDA for calcium, while one serving of whole milk contains 28 percent. This fact allows you to get a good dose of calcium each day even if you are lactose intolerant, since oat milk is lactose-free. Many people who are lactose intolerant choose other sources for lactose-free milk, such as rice milk or soy milk. Oat milk might be a better choice for you, because it’s typically cheaper to buy, or you can even make it yourself.”
